We were in the area and looking for somewhere to have a quick lunch. Went in to Langans and were given a great table in the window of the terrace. The staff didn't speak great English but more than made up for it in charm. The menu was good value if you have the full 3 courses for £23.50 so we also plumped for a bottle of Chilean Sauvignon blanc to accompany the food; it came with a jug of iced water which was a nice touch. The menu listed the options very simply and when the food arrived it more than lived up to expectations. We had Mediterranean prawns with garlic mayo (5 HUGE prawns bursting with flavour) and the roasted tomato risotto which, again packed a punch - 3 types of warm bread roll on the side made for a vary satisfying start! For the main we both went for the veal steak which was thick and tasty whilst being as soft as a marshmallow. It came with new potatoes and veg which sounded bland but the potatoes were sauted and the veg was green beens and mange tout; there was also an apple and calvados accompaniement with the veal - delicious! We rounded things off with the banoffee pie which was a perfect end. After realising we had been eating and chatting for 2 hours (with no hassle from the staff) we left feeling very happy indeed; truly a sign of a good lunch.

apparently under different management now and it really shows! I've been trying to book a table for 14 for over a week and all I've had is a shambolic response in particular from the manager. We have chosen our dishes, booked the table, faxed the order through, called and confirmed it only to be told after a few days that nothing has been received and if we come for our meal all we'll be given is 'food'. Oh yes, we'll be sat on seperate tables. A more rude and unhelpful a Manager I have yet to meet. Langans came recommended so we are very surprised by their behaviour.

Considering this restaurant is located in the middle of the trendy Old Brompton Road, Langans Coq d'Or is remarkably old fashioned. There is something slightly archaic about the staid atmosphere in the bright dining room and the tinny background music, and the service, while perfectly friendly, was just not quite right. The waitress was middle aged and English and reminded me of a distant aunt who I had never particularly liked. My smoked duck with spanish tortilla was a perfectly nice starter and for main the red mullet was fine, but my girlfriend's 'vile' fishcake apparently contained very few fish and was bizarrely full of mushrooms. Overall I was left with the impression of the sort of resting-on-its-laurels restaurant you might find in a northern provincial town where people go for a special occasion. It is however in no way good enough for its prime location in Earls Court and I am amazed it manages to survive. I can only think that judging by the clientele it is advertised in some of the tacky hotels that pepper the backstreets of Earls Court. For the overall experience I should also add that it is comparitively expensive at £70 for two when you can get far better fare at any one of the other local restaurants for a similar price.

In the days of being the Pontevecchio this was a great restaurant- now it is an apology for the name of Langans. Loud canned music, unfriendly staff,tinned vegetables, tasteless fish - a place never to be revisited. At least for its awfulness it was not pricey.;

A fantastically executed brunch menu. Delicious Eggs Benedict. Very friendly, professional, non-intrusive and attentive service. Diverse clientele of all ages - you could just as easily take your granny or your partner. A very easy place to eat well and relax.
