Weng Wah House

Went here last week, ate downstairs:- Many people confuse eating at a party with 25 people upstairs in the karaoke lounge as the true dining experience here, when it is far from it. Of course the food will suffer if you serve it in enormous amounts to 25 people at a time. That would be the case in any restaraunt.
Our meal was fantastic, the roasted duck was the best duck I have ever had in any restaurant whether it be Chinese or not and the pak choi in garlic tasted fresh and delicious. The salt and pepper King prawns are also excellent.
If you are looking for a stylish restaraunt with modern decor then perhaps Weng Wah House is NOT for you but if you are looking for excellent Chinese food in good portions from with a varied menu then Weng Wah House IS for you.

Went to celebrate a friends birthday, food portions were large but were served luke warm, drinks had to be returned because they were flat and they charge 10% on top of the wine list price for a bottle of wine!
We had one person that didn't eat (doesn't like chinese) and one person that had to go home early as they were ill, however, staff insisted that we had to pay £23 each for them, when objecting, the Manager was extremely rude and not prepared to listen. Staff were constantly watching you which made you feel uncomfortable. Karaoke was good but it depends on other groups there.
I don't think any of us would go back there!

We have been regulars of this restaurant for almost 10 years now, and I wish - time permitting - to go more than once a week! I find this to be the best Chinese restaurant we ever went to, and we took friends and relatives to it on numerous occasions.
Not only the food is superb, but the decor, ambience and staff attitude is more than a match, which explains why unless you are there before 8 pm, you need a reservation, no matter what day of the week!
To name only a few of their wonderful dishes: deep fried squid with salt & pepper,
the dim sum selection, steamed prawns with garlic, with spring onion and ginger, the sizzling beef fillet with black bean sauce, etc, etc.
As for drinks, try their Italian Pinot Griggio or the Muscadet - forget the cheap supermarket varieties - these are the genuine articles at very reasonable prices.
To top it all, all clients are served with their fresh fruit platter - free of charge! Do give it a try.

We came here on a recommendation with friends for a Christmas meal with Kareoke, while we expected to have a fun night we were to be very dissappointed. For £28 the selection and amount of food provided for our group was pitiful, we ended up having to request more and had bad service from the few staff.
We had a number of vegetarians, one of whom ended up eating the meat option as she only had two choices, both of which were not large enough.
While the singing was fun for others, we never even got a chance to participate as they had badly organised the order of groups.
Overall a very dissapointing and expensive experience, never to be repeated.

I been to this restaurant a few times over the years. Some dishes are very good but I found some well below what I expected. Somewhat over-priced too. It seems to me that a change of management might have taken place because the new menu now has less vegetarian dishes than it use to. I know a few that will no longer dine there because of this. Unlike many who give this reataurant a realy good rating I don't. But it is good and for a change worth going, although I know at lease 4 to 5 other Chinese restaurants that match their fine food but at a much reduced price.

We booked the upstairs room for a big group meal and kareoke. The food was excellent (with only 1 duff dish) and pretty good value. The service was swift and friendly, and the kareoke was tons of fun. I used to live near Weng Wah House and used to pass by all the time. Don't let the outside fool you, this is not your average around the corner takeaway!
