My wife and I with two oversees friends had the pleasure of dining here in June of last year.
Yesterday,my wife and I decided to re-visit this well run French Eatery again to see if the place was still up to scratch. Well, we were pleasantly surprised to find that nothing had changed. Full marks for consistancy.
Good Atmosphere, Very good food and service, Dinner for two, including house wine and Service 90.00
A great evening out !! Thank you Le-Cellier

I was recommended this family run basement restaurant and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised that my expectations were not dampened. We went on a Saturday and although the place was busy the service and the food were certainly up to scratch. The fish soup was delicious and my fillet steak with Roquefort sauce was so tender I hardly needed to use the knife to slice through it. My girlfriend enjoyed the starter special of king prawns in a mildly spicy tomato sauce and her rack of lamb was as pink as she had ordered it. Creme Brulee and Tarte Tatin( Apple Tart ) were more than adequate!
Price for two with nice claret came to about £ 45.00 a head including service.
I look forward to returning.

We have known the existence of this quaint little French eatery for some years but somehow didn't get around to going there until last week .
We had two friends visiting us from States who were keen to spend an evening out with us in some small French restaurant in the neighbourhood. So, the four of us decided to give this place a try. We were at the outset pleasantly surprised with rusty decor and atmosphere.
Enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in a cozy bar. Restaurant Manager was very knowledgeable and explained the dishes on offer well in simple to understand words. The food was well presented and tasted as food should. The food server was attentive but discreet.
One got the impression that this was a well run family establishment with a modest success story,as often is the case with family run operations.
Total bill for drinks, meal with good bottle of house wine and gratuity came to about 150.00 pounds.Good value for money for an very enjoyable evening. We will very likely patronize this restaurant again

Very nice service, made us feel very comfortable. But the food was ..... quite frankly bad. It was like going back to the seventies. Very bland, with loads of even blander sauces. And quite expensive. All the courses were bad. We didn't complaint as the service was so nice, and we just enjoyed the atmosphere. But seriously, how can they go on with that food? Amazing. They actually told us that they had the same clients for decades, and so thay keep cooking the same dishes not to disappoint them. There you go, there must have been an explanation.
great, it was like dining at Fawlty Towers but with nice service.
But the service is not enough to build a new client base. We are young professionals and we would have loved to find a place like that where to go for celebrations. But no way, will never go back. The decor by the way is very tired, with hideous little pictures on the walls, very dark, very.... 1975. This people could do very well if they wanted to, but they believe that they can go on like this as they have old clients. But the restaurant was nearly empty that night.

Went to this restaurant for our wedding anniversary after walking past it for the past few years and wanting to give it a go.
The food, service and decor were all under par and will certainly not be going back.

This restaurant does well at what it's trying to be. It's trying to be a family-run business with a cosy atmosphere.
Yes, it could be said that the decor is slightly dated but I wouldn't go so far as to call it depressing. It's just a little dark. However, I feel this is more than made up for by the general ambience and location of the restaurant. Where else can one feel at home in a basement? They've done the job well.
Food was second to none. My party ate just about everything that was put in front of us. The waiter had extensive knowledge of the food coming from the kitchen and sold the specials so well we all went along with his suggestions.
Only downside is that they were a tad clingy as we were leaving. Yes we will go back. Probably soon. This place is worth a visit for a special occasion. Parking is a bit of a pain due to local restrictions (relaxed on Sundays), but if you're coming on public transport, it's within short walking distance of Hampstead tube station.
Recommended!

I have been frequenting this fantasic Restaurant for at least the last 15 years and the quality has never faulted.
There is a large menu to choose from as well as the specials.
The family & staff are always welcoming and cannot do enough to make an evening any more enjoyable without being overbearing.
I can heartily recommend this establishment.

"My husband and i went there for dinner the other night and had a rather poor fish soup - too watery and slighly oily, although the gruyere and rouille were good. Both the lamb and steak main courses were definitley overcooked to our medium rare orders but were still tasty and the vegetables included a really good dauphinoise, although the rest were a bit overcooked.
All the food was acceptable, although not staggeringly brilliant but then.... as we were halfway though eating our mains, the diner next door to my husband lit a cigarette and so did half the rest of the room. Bearing in mind this restaurant is in a basement it was totally unacceptable and ruined our dinner. The service up till this point had been fine, if unremarkable, when we complained and asked for the bill, because we didn't wish to stay there any longer they apologised in a very slight of hand manner, offered no compensation or recompense.
We were on our honeymoon, it was meant to be a special dinner, but it was ruined by the smoke and the bad experience compounded by the lack of interest and concern shown by the restaurant owners. A real let down and it's not as if it was cheap either."

We went as a group of six on Saturday night and from the outset it was lovely. The staff are probably the best staff to be found in any London restaurant. They are so friendly and really make sure they have done everything possible to make sure that you enjoy your meal. They know the menu off by heart and the specials and memorise your order. The food is fantastic - just simple, uncomplicated french food. Even the house wine is fantastic. In all the meal came to £220 including service for a mixture of 2 course and 3 course meals and 4 bottles of wine. I wouldn't hesitate to go again. The clientele is not at all flashy and so it is a refreshing change from other restaurants in the area.
